Carmeon Hamilton is a Memphis-based interior designer and lifestyle blogger behind the brand, Nubi Interiors, winner of HGTV’s Design Star: Next Gen, and star of HGTV’s Reno My Rental. A self-proclaimed modern bohemian, Carmeon utilizes her design education and vast experience to discover the beauty in all things and help others find beauty in what surrounds them every day. Carmeon’s design style can be described as cultured, textured and soulful.
In 2022, Carmeon upgraded her small outdoor patio area with an expansive custom-built deck. Partnering with Sunbrella, the elevated deck features lounge seating and a dining area, all with products made with Sunbrella fabrics. Carmeon added a custom pergola covering from ShadeTree made with Sunbrella fabric to complete the space. Later in 2022, Carmeon wanted to build out her outdoor space and upgrade her lower patio area, creating an extension of her living room and adding space to entertain family and friends all throughout the year.
This summer, we were thrilled to partner with Carmeon once again and help her complete her backyard pool patio.
The Inspiration
With exciting summer plans on the way, Carmeon’s pool area needed furniture that was both stylish and durable. Her must-haves were durability and comfort! With the heat of summertime in Memphis, plus the different types of precipitation they get all year long, furniture pieces that can stand the test of time were imperative. “I never want to have anything that requires constant, specialized care and expensive upkeep. I try to keep my life and the things in it as simple as possible…it’s much more enjoyable that way!” said Carmeon.
Her completed outdoor oasis includes plenty of comfortable, easy-to-clean seating and pillows, plus umbrellas made with Sunbrella fabric for when it’s time to retreat from the sun.
The Design
From the first outdoor project, it was essential to Carmeon that her seating options were “beautiful, comfortable, and cleanable.” She wanted furniture that was modern with clean lines and white fabrics that would pop against the black house and deep stained deck. This stunning, cohesive style carries through from her home’s exterior color (a beautiful, true black from Behr), through the crisp, white fabrics and contrasting black accents of the deck furniture, the outdoor living area, and now the pool patio.
Poolside Seating
For poolside seating, Carmeon chose the Lollygagger Chaise from Loll Designs in Cloud White with Chaise Cushions made with Sunbrella Canvas White. She added Lulu and Georgia pillows in Azra Natural and Milan Black. The subtle prints and tone on tone colorways of the pillows add quiet details to the main furniture pieces. They blend perfectly with every other element of the space.
Cozy Options for Relaxation
She added an extra cozy option with the Westgate Teak Outdoor Daybed from Willow Creek Designs with the cushion made with Sunbrella Canvas White. “Every outdoor space needs a place for a good nap,” explained Carmeon. “I had more than enough space to consider a hammock set up, but figured, what’s one of the most “indoor” elements we could bring outside? A whole bed! It’s not just great for naps, but we love it on pool days too!”
A Conversation Area
Carmeon wanted to add a conversation area for extra seating near the pool and chose the Nisswa Lounge Chair from Loll Designs in Cloud White with cushions in Sunbrella Cast Charcoal.
The Finishing Touch
She added umbrellas around the poolside from Crate & Barrel in Sunbrella Canopy Stripe Black/White, the perfect touch to tie in the modern design style that carries through the entire backyard.
A Modern Outdoor Oasis
Carmeon’s backyard is the ultimate outdoor oasis with stylish, comfortable, and durable spaces to entertain, relax, and enjoy. Her favorite part? According to Carmeon, “Modern pieces that not only look beautiful but are made with fabric that will perform for years to come are what truly make this space a dream come true!”
