Designer Spotlight: Tiffany Thompson

Tiffany Thompson, interior designer and owner of Duett Interiors, used Sunbrella fabrics in her designs for the 2021 NW Natural Street of Dreams® in Portland, Oregon, creating an inviting outdoor oasis for the family who had purchased the home.

Three things defined the “must-haves” for the space:

  1. Comfort— both in the furniture and the material mix;
  2. Durable—the furnishings needed to hold up to Portland’s weather and the family’s two young children;
  3. Escape—the owners wanted a relaxing retreat where they could escape from hectic, high-stress workdays.

“When thinking about an outdoor space, consider how conversations will happen in the space, how people will interact with the space solo, how children will use the furniture. All of this is important. Make sure that you invest in the materials, first and foremost. It doesn’t matter if it looks good if it doesn’t last and feel good. You can really take away from the beauty of a space by not having the right textures and fabrics. Don’t skimp on a long-lasting, tried-and-true material like Sunbrella. It’s always going to be worth it; I promise.”
