Summertime Favorites and How to Clean Them
What’s a cookout with a hotdog with all the fixings? Or a big scoop of ice cream with rainbow sprinkles? For the adults, a festive sangria might fit your red, white, and blue theme, or beer drinkers might enjoy their favorite IPA at the party.
While Sunbrella fabrics are engineered with stain resistance technology, it’s always best to clean up spills as soon as they happen. Read below for specific tips for different types of summertime spills. You can check out the Sunbrella Cleaning Guide for even more tips and specific cleaning instructions.
Ketchup & Mustard
If a dollop of ketchup or mustard hits your upholstery, you can easily clean it with 1/4 cup mild liquid soap per gallon of water.
For spilled beer, combine 1/4 cup mild liquid soap and 1/3 cup white vinegar per gallon of water.
No need to scream over a dropped ice cream cone! You can easily clean it with 1/4 cup mild liquid soap per gallon of water.
Butter, Grease, or Salad Dressing
If a delicious morsel from the grill drops from your plate, follow these instructions for tough grease stains: First apply cornstarch as an absorbent and remove excess with a straight edge. Clean up the residual spill with a mild liquid soap and water.
If you spill sangria or wine on your upholstery, combine 1/4 cup mild liquid soap, 1/3 cup white vinegar and 1/2 - 1 cup isopropyl alcohol or hydrogen peroxide per gallon of water.
If fresh summer berries get on your Sunbrella fabric, just combine 1/4 cup mild liquid soap and 1/2 - 1 cup white vinegar per gallon of water.
Clean-Up Made Easy
Spills are bound to happen when celebrating; but Sunbrella fabrics give you the freedom to live in the moment and not worry about stains and hard to clean spills. Quickly clean up everyday messes by following these directions:
- Blot (don't rub) liquid spills with a clean, dry cloth.
- Spray on a mild cleaning solution of soap (such as Woolite® or Dawn®) and water.
- Rinse the fabric thoroughly to remove all soap residue.
- Air dry.
Cleaning with 303®
We also recommend 303® Multi-Surface Cleaner, an all-in-one cleaning agent that works on all water-safe materials, including Sunbrella fabrics. The 303® Multi-Surface Cleaner is safe and effective to get rid of stains. The water-based, residue-free formula is fabric-friendly and effective to get rid of spills and stains.
After many years of enjoyment or several thorough cleanings, you may want to re-treat your outdoor fabrics. We recommend 303® Fabric Guard as a great fabric protector spray that strengthens and restores lost water repellency for outdoor fabrics.
