Dabito is a designer and artist who’s known for using color and a mix of modern and vintage pieces to create unique interior and outdoor settings for his clients. We caught up with Dabito to talk with him about his New Orleans home where he used Sunbrella fabrics to enhance his personal style. In his back yard, Dabito created a functional, yet cozy space where he could both lounge and host intimate gatherings with friends and family. Inside his home, he created a dining space where he could comfortably enjoy a home-cooked meal by adding a banquette between his kitchen and living room.
Dabito starts with the function and flow of the spaces he designs. Then he decides on the color story that best captures the spirit of the design. Finally, he spices things up by layering in plants, art, vintage, and personal items to create personal spaces that are bold and unique—spaces that tell the story of the people who live there.
“Think about how you’ll use the space. It needs to be functional and serve your needs. And if you’re working with small spaces, think about how to maximize it. Always triple measure everything because you can’t afford to go wrong with something that doesn’t fit in the space.”
