Retail-ol-ogy…Tips For Sales This Memorial Day Weekend

For the majority of people Memorial Day weekend is the recognized kick-off festival to summer, it traditionally involves an outdoor barbeque, a magnificent looking table, exceptional summer recipes, refreshing drinks and your best-loved guests to jump-start the warmer season of the year. This event could not be accomplished without a multitude of seating options, from deep seating including sofas, love seats, club chairs, modular furniture and benches to dining chairs and bar stools. The specialty retail stores are getting busier each and everyday with people shopping for just the right outdoor furniture for their backyard, porch, patio, or deck.

It is common practice for casual furniture retailers to launch a Memorial Day Weekend Sale, often outside of the walls of the store under a tent. The weather is conducive to this outdoor setting, it affords people the opportunity to sit on the furniture outdoors. Just because this is a sale does not mean that you shouldn’t put in the effort to create a lovely outdoor vignette with the sale merchandise. It will not take too much more effort on your part to place the furniture together in a pleasing arrangement, add a few accessories to liven up the set, place an outdoor area rug underneath the presentation to define the area and add a pop of color with accent throw pillows.

Another fun way to celebrate this holiday Memorial Day weekend, formerly known as Decoration Day, while hosting a sale at your casual furniture store is to decorate the surrounding space in Red, White and Blue, you can use stars, ribbons or balloons. Play patriotic music that makes us feel good like Toby Keith singing “Courtesy of The Red, White & Blue” “American Soldier” or “God Bless The USA” sung by Lee Greenwood. Set up a BBQ and grill some hot dogs, chicken or ribs and serve with ice-cold lemonade. I can assure you, your customers will be appreciative, and they will remember your kindness and the extra special touches that you provided during this weekend sale.

Perhaps you can consider donating a portion of each sale to the armed forces to commemorate the US soldiers who died while in military service. No matter how you decide to pay tribute to this day, you will feel proud to be an American.

Even the simplest nod to the colors red, white and blue will add spirit to your Memorial Day weekend.
