For the International Home Furnishings Market, that opened April 25, internationally respected furniture and fabric designer, HGTV personality and style guru Joe Ruggiero introduced new collections of upholstery frames and fabrics with classic origins and a more contemporary edge. 

“I believe a new edgy approach to classic upholstery frames is needed in today’s marketplace,” Ruggiero said. “I have also designed new Sunbrella® fabric groups that are inspired by what I have seen on the fashion runways and inspired by my visit to the famous German Bauhaus School.” 

Ruggiero’s signature sculptural upholstery takes on a totally different personality as he mixes contemporary fabrics with the latest in new fashion leathers.

His new April 2009 introductions include:

The Sloane Chair and Ottoman – A sleek comfortable design inspired by upholstery used on mid-twentieth century luxury ocean liners. The graceful arm and unique inset back create a style that is the perfect companion to almost any room décor.  This style is available in both fabric and leather.

The Germaine Chair – A French inspired wood armchair or fauteuil is a classic Louis XIV design. This chair, which can be used as a side chair, hall chair for informal dining, is available in all Miles Talbott finishes, fabrics and leather. It is also available with a contrasting fabric back, which is a traditional French design application.

The Pauline Chair – A barrel wing chair reproduced from Ruggiero’s personal collection. This stylized wing chair is very much at home in any of today’s design plans. The scale makes it appropriate for living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and casual dining. It is available in fabric or leather, with or without nail heads.

The Westfield Collection – All weather wicker collection in an original Ruggiero design utilizing Viro fiber in the color mocha cream. This unique concept can be configured to any room with a flexible collection of club chair and ottoman, chaise lounge, sofa, loveseat, armless sections, book shelves and screens. The Westfield Collection is truly a revolutionary concept for indoor living. Cushions are available in fabric or leather.

Some of the other Ruggiero introductions for spring 2009 include:

The Russell Bed – Features clean, classic lines and is loaded with options. This fully upholstered bed is available in leather or fabric, tufted or non tufted back, with or without nail heads.

The Arthur Chair and Ottoman – Inspired by the men’s clubs of London with an extremely comfortable cap arm lounge chair available in fabric or leather, with or without nail heads.

The Gable Cocktail Ottoman – Generously sized ottoman perfect as a complement to any room décor with space for art books, object d’art or casual dining. It is available in fabric or leather, with or without nail heads.

New Additions to the Tribeca – Two additional sectional components added to this best seller. A corner sofa and a one-arm sofa are available, which further increases the versatility of this expansive program. In addition, customers have the option of specifying a bench seat. Part of the Miles Talbott Options Program, the versatile Tribeca group allows designers and consumers to design upholstery to their particular needs and style.

In addition to the new upholstery introductions, Ruggiero has added 22 new Sunbrella fabrics. “I have assembled a mix of textures, original woven artwork, whimsical geometrics and contemporary Bauhaus inspired patterns,” he said.

Ruggiero has arranged his Sunbrella fabric groups based on color ways. He is using hints of acid green, buttercup yellow and lilac blue against a palette of grey, black and white. The new fabrics reflect a beautifully balanced canvas of subtle colors and new age accents. 

“Fashion runways were awash in gray this past season with a great diversity of hues,” Ruggiero said. “This apparel influence is also popular in home décor, evidenced by the latest wood finish for Miles Talbott, named Drift Wood, that Miles Talbott is introducing for the spring market.”

The Ruggiero Collection has broadened its offering and is considered one of the nation’s most exciting designer home environment collections. It includes both upholstered and wood furniture, textiles, decorative trims, lighting, accessories, wall décor and an extensive outdoor furniture collection that includes all weather wicker.

“My furniture is designed for heavy wear and easy care to make every room a living room,” he said.
