Fire Pits And Bonfires
I was just up in the North Carolina mountains with my daughter last weekend and while I was ready to retire by 10 o’clock on Saturday night, she and her friends were just beginning to plan their evening. She’s working at a retreat center this summer (glad she’s making some money!) so the staff will often get together after a long day’s work and hang out. Well they certainly made a night of it and when she quietly came back to our dorm (as quietly as she could in the middle of the night anyway) she reeked of smoke – bonfire smoke that is. I remember building bonfires in college. They created a communal and cozy atmosphere. Of course your clothes would have to go straight to laundry and you only hoped that you could get the smell out.
Take a look at today’s version of the backyard bonfire. Modern fire pits don’t replace the real thing, but they sure are a lot less messy and create quite an inviting environment on cool evenings or any evening for that matter. Check out Casual Living’s rundown on these inventive backyard implements. And you won’t even have to run to the washing machine when you’re done!
