Glen Raven Custom Fabrics, LLC, the makers of Sunbrella brand marine fabrics, is introducing a new marine fabric that combines waterproofing with the soft feel of an interior fabric, meeting boaters' needs for performance along with good looks for boat enclosures and bimini tops.
Sunbrella Supreme uses a proprietary bonding process that adheres an acrylic fabric for the face of the product to an acrylic flocking for the reverse side, while also creating a waterproof barrier. The result is a marine fabric that protects boaters from the rain and spray, while offering a luxurious, velour-like feeling inside the cabin or beneath the bimini.
"In addition to extensive laboratory testing, we have also field tested Sunbrella Supreme over a three-year period in the Caribbean, Australia and the U.S.," said Derek Robinson, marine products manager for Sunbrella fabrics. "We are confident in this fabric's durability, fade resistance and ease of cleaning."
According to Robinson, Sunbrella Supreme was created to meet the demand for a high performance marine fabric with enhanced aesthetics.
"We believe that boaters will be drawn to the performance and feel of the product, while they also enjoy the opportunity to have contrasting colors on either side of the fabric," Robinson said. "You can have a dark, rich color on the outside, with a lighter, brighter color reflecting inside the cabin or on deck," he said.
Sunbrella Supreme is offered in a marine construction of 60-inch widths and is available in eight colors. Initial color availability includes Black/Linen, Black/Black, Captain Navy/Linen, Captain Navy/Captain Navy, Linen/Linen, Pacific Blue/Pacific Blue, Forest Green/Forest Green and Burgundy/Burgundy.
"Sunbrella Supreme offers all of the fade resistance, durability and ease of cleaning that the boating community has associated with Sunbrella fabrics for nearly 40 years," Robinson said. "Sunbrella Supreme is backed by a five-year limited warranty and will be available to the trade through leading distributors nationwide."
